The Sitka Log Homes’ feature home is 832 square feet on the main floor and 403 square feet in the loft. The main log shell is constructed of Mountain Pine wood. The unique blue and gray colours are distinctive of the interior’s Lodgepole Pine that had the mountain pine beetle present in the trees several years ago. The construction period for the log shell was approximately eight weeks at Sitka’s facility in 100 Mile House and then numbered and tagged prior to disassembly. The building was then shipped to BC Place in Vancouver where the log work was re-assembled in two days. Thereafter, the roof framing panels and pre-finished loft wall framing was erected and the remainder of the interior was completed.

The log work has a clear interior finish as well as a light-coloured exterior finish. The windows have been constructed with Western Red Cedar and trimmed with four-inch half logs, a unique finishing item provided by Sitka. The doors were custom-crafted in 100 Mile House and are constructed of Alder. The roof was covered in gray-brown textured metal shingles and golden wheat colored paving stones were used outdoors.

The balance of the house was completed with the interior design coordinated by Intermind Design. Materials were donated or loaned and installations were completed by many members of the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association.

Interior finishes included recycled solid tongue-and-groove fir stained in semi-transparent charcoal tone, Venetian plaster finish with randomly placed coral reef-inspired cultured stones, lime-bronze squared textured metallic wallpaper and mosaic wall for the bathroom made of glass tiles in eight colors.

Country Woodworkers provided the exceptional, handcrafted from solid wood, kitchen and dining set from their Mother Hubbard's Cupboards design line in three finishes: antique white for cabinets, olive green for butcher desk and blue for dining set. Elmira Stove Works’ incredible line of vintage-style black appliances with 21st century technology was used as contrasting elements.

The lighting fixtures were either made in a bronze finish with semi-opulent glass or from custom blown bubble glass. Bathroom fixtures included a slick Italian designed free-standing tub, glass vessel placed on the top of the folk cabinet used as a pedestal, and Moen oil-rubbed bronze fixtures from their designer’s Kingsley line of products.

The eclectic choice of high-end furnishing for the house was provided by Valley Direct Furniture. Soft furnishings featured pieces such as Arin International’s day bed made of hand-rubbed leather and Italian velvet with the feather fiber mixed cushions covered in Mongolian lambs’ wool and British tapestry fabric. Specially made for this showhome, the contemporary designed small scale sectional was upholstered in a light blue and taupe toned tapestry fabric, a reproduction of sixteenth century French Neo-classical theme. Antique 2000 armoire in black, wine table and occasional chairs in antique white finish accompanied the kitchen cabinetry insert the Old World touch to the house’s interior.

The ambience of casual elegance and sophistication was completed by excessive application of nature-inspired abstract paintings, figurative sculptures and masks, and three strategically placed life-size mannequins dressed for the occasion.
